Cryptocurrency group Centre Consortium has named Rebecca Cohen its new general counsel, the group said Tuesday.

Cohen will oversee legal strategy for Centre, which is backed by crypto company Circle Internet Financial, LLC and exchange Coinbase Global, Inc. Centre serves as a network governing and standard-setting body for blockchain-based financial services.

“Emerging financial technologies can bring about tremendous progress when they’re implemented with care,” Cohen said in a statement announcing her hire. “It’s essential that the right-sized controls be put in place to mitigate risk while giving the public full access to the opportunities created by these innovations.”

Cohen previously served as general counsel for Mark43 and associate general counsel for Worldcoin. She has 15 years of experience representing traditional financial institutions in cross-border restructuring, financing, and litigation matters, according to Centre.
